Janusz Christa’s iconic characters come to life in full 3D for the first time.
In 2006, Virtual Magic took on a unique challenge: bringing the world of “Kajko and Kokosz” from the pages of the iconic Polish comic book into a three-dimensional cinematic reality. The result was a 16-minute production and one of the first Polish attempts to combine advanced 3D animation with motion capture technology in a screen adaptation of a Polish comic.
Directed by Daniel Zduńczyk and Marcin Męczkowski, the film combines the distinctive visual world of Janusz Christa with the possibilities of digital animation. Motion capture was used to record the characters’ movements, giving them greater naturalism and dynamism, while the detailed 3D environments created a world in which the comic’s universe could fully come to life on screen.
The Polish voice cast included Maciej Stuhr as Kajko and Cezary Żak as Kokosz.
For Virtual Magic, this was a particularly important project. It combined the artistic interpretation of one of Poland’s most recognizable comic book stories with technologies that were only beginning to open new possibilities for film production at the time.
